The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s survey showed that a healthy smile was important socially for 99.7% of its participants. As a result, more people are being encouraged to take better care of their teeth, thus their smile. In addition to having regular dental check-ups and professional teeth whitening sessions, people can improve their smile with Invisalign braces. They can also have their missing teeth replaced with crowns and bridges, dentures, and dental implants.
Teeth Discoloration and Professional Whitening
The primary reason that many people provide for being unhappy with their teeth is due to discoloration. This was the reason given by 64% of the study’s participants. While there are a variety of causes for tooth discoloration, professional teeth whitening procedures can usually address this discoloration to create whiter teeth. The survey showed that 82.5% of the participants indicated that they noticed a difference when they had their teeth professionally whitened.
Treating Cavities
Treating cavities is also an important reason to visit the dentist on a regular basis. When cavities are just beginning to develop, they may not be noticed. As they further develop, however, they can be quite painful and lead to increased sensitivity and other issues. It’s been shown that a minimum of 1 out of every 5 people in the United States has at least 1 untreated cavity.
Treating Missing Teeth
In the United States, there are roughly 15 million Americans that have replaced their missing teeth with crowns and bridges. Even though the newest types of dentures appear more natural and are more comfortable and better-fitting than their earlier counterparts, many individuals are choosing to have full dental implants. Some people, however, may opt for the newest types of dentures rather than having dental implants.
According to recent scientific literature, there appears to be a 98% success rate with dental implants. Every year, roughly 3 million people choose these implants to replace some or all of their missing teeth. It is interesting to note that the number of people that are opting for this procedure is increasing by 500,000 per year.
Taking Steps to Experience Professional Success
Given that the American Academy of cosmetic Dentistry’s survey found that 99.7% of its participants believed that a smile was important socially, other participants thought that an unattractive smile could actually harm their professional careers. This was the case with 74% of the adult survey participants.
In order to improve the appearance of a person’s teeth as well as address other dental issues, making an appointment with a good dentist can make a significant difference. Teeth whitening, straightening, or the newest types of dentures may be recommended. Once these and other procedures are completed, a person’s confidence levels tend to be raised considerably. This in itself can make a difference in social and professional success.
